WHO WE ARE - SPRINGWOOD HISTORIANS

SPRINGWOOD HISTORIANS - established in 2000, are a non-profit making group of independent researchers with a special interest in the social history of the Springwood district – its people, their activities and achievements, their homes, occupations and their place in the history of the wider world.   As far as we are able, we aim to preserve the heritage/history of the Springwood area, which encompasses the villages of Linden, Faulconbridge, Valley Heights and Winmalee. The aim of the two publications we have launched thus far is to inform and alert local residents and schools about the history of the place in which they live.  However, because Blue Mountains history forms an integral part of state and national history we aim for a more co-ordinated approach in the dissemination of local history so that the history of the Springwood district can be placed into a broader context.  For example, Remembrance Springwood District Honor Roll 1914-1919 illustrated how the war service of local men fitted into community history and could be located in the  broader picture of what was happening elsewhere at that time.

We support the Local Studies section of Blue Mountains City Library by donating primary material and other research information to their files. Recently, the group donated a collection of World War One Army Service Records to the collection for the use of other researchers and the broader public.  The group gathers in Braemar – the home of the Blue Mountains City Library Local Studies Collection – on most Mondays to discuss our projects, plan future activities and continue our research. Our group is a member of the Blue Mountains Association of Cultural Heritage Organisations Inc. and shares its commitment to preserving the unique heritage of the Blue Mountains.  We hope that others will enjoy the stories we tell, the social history we present and take pride in the pioneers who established our town.
